Virtualisation and mobilisation = Software plus Services?

Zack Whittaker over at ZDNet has written up an interesting approach to combine desktop and cloud computing using Live Mesh – a Software plus Services implementation of sorts.

He’s taken a VHD, stored it in the cloud using Live Mesh. I was talking to someone in the office today about this kind of approach to using the cloud to enable portable computing. It’s a nice idea but until there is binary difference sync in Mesh it’s a bit of a non starter as the VHD is going to be prohibitively big to ship up and down each time.

Food for thought though. Imagine if you could VHD package your small business IT setup and move it to the cloud when your company grew in size.
