I picked up the latest edition of Wired on the way back from the US last week and read a sad but intriguing story about the disappearance of Jim Gray. I blogged about this a while back when the legendary computer scientist went missing and this was a long overdue update.
The part about this story that touched me so much was how despite considerable competition between companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Oracle and others in a time of need those companies threw down their differences and went to the aid of a friend and colleague. Nothing surprising really but sometimes it’s easy to forget that we’re all just people doing stuff we love and secretly admiring those who do the same.
