Not quite RC1 but this new build is now on the Connect site - thanks to JCXP for the heads up. As they note, performance is definitely improved, install time is much quicker and there are quite a number of UI tweaks.
I've now moved lock stock to Vista and the entire company is moving pretty swiftly now. I'm switching machines between my M400 and Travelmate 8100 to test different builds and I'm very happy with my current build and Office 2007 build which is post beta 2. Stable, quick and looking good (apart from a few printing issues!).
If you have access to Connect you can get the build or head over to the RC1 signup page to get the build and more for $9.95. - US and Canada only at the moment :( though I'm trying to find out if we'll add UK for my local readers.

[update] - MaryJo has now blogged this and feedback is coming in with Matt Stone commenting that "Performance is about 3x better so far on my Dell Inspiron 9300" and "and driver support is phenomenal". I agree - perf on my Acer is way better and the only missing driver was for the smartcard reader (which I loaded off the Acer CD).
