Zune details announced

Lots of Zune details came out today including plenty of images at the Virtual Press Room and quite a number of videostoo. Anna's first reaction: "ooh it looks just like an iPod" and mine was "ohh, brown...the new black".

The videos are the best part for me as you get a feel for the size of the device and also the size of the screen which is quite striking. Check out this video for example.

Features wise, you'll be able to "wirelessly share selected full-length sample tracks, playlists, pictures or your home-grown tracks directly from Zune to Zune". You can also get new music from the Zune marketplace and the unit has a built in FM tuner. The initial units will be white, black and brown (I'm digging brown) and will be 30gb.

The timing of the announce was interesting as it looks like we're almost coming out quietly under the air cover provided by the Apple announcements this week. Smart move if you ask me (which you didn't I know...). It's also good to see some accessories announced too including the Zune Travel Pack.

All in all I'm quite impressed and happier than ever to be going to New York at New Year to scoop a unit (or two).

Inevitably it's top of Techmeme but fortunately a company wide email alerted us all that this was coming which was a good heads up :)

meantime, the Engadget guys scooped an interview with J Alllard which is very interesting.
