All files stored on a drive or server share are corrupted and will not open

We are still seeing many reports globally that people are unable to open multiple Office Files (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or other files such as JPEG or AutoCAD.  This is another symptom of the Malware attack that we reported on in early September.

When attempting to open any files you may encounter one of the following messages:

For Microsoft Excel file types, the error says: "Excel cannot open the file [filename] because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file."

For Microsoft Word, the error may read differently: "The file cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents" or "The file [FileName] cannot be opened because there is a problem with the contents".

Note:   The error messages wording may vary depending on the version of Office and the application that you are opening.
