Windows Azure is the operating system for cloud computing. This introduction will explain what Windows Azure really means for enterprises and independent software developers. Windows Azure promises high availability, massive scalability, and pay-as-you-go consumption in a simplified management model. How solutions builders can integrate and take advantage of these benefits will be critical in the new world of ever increasing performance requirements and cost sensitivity.

The Azure Services Platform, which includes Windows Azure, provides building blocks to create the applications of tomorrow. However, it may be difficult to figure out where to start among the many pieces of technology that could be leveraged in part or in combination. This seminar will quickly lay out the benefits of cloud computing, Microsoft’s many offerings and how they all tie together to create a development platform that is easy to use, flexible and powerful.

This half-day activity should be viewed as an overview to Windows Azure and the Azure Services Platform. It will provide high-level discussions of all the current technology options available for use. In 4 hours, participants should have a clear understanding of Microsoft’s investments in the cloud computing space, be able to enumerate the various technology options available to the solution developer and easily articulate why Windows Azure is a significant addition to software capability.

Note that at the time of this writing, Windows Azure has not been released and thus content is subject to change as the technology matures towards commercial availability. Specifically, until Windows Azure’s commercial debut, we are unable to discuss Windows Azure billing methods and fee structures.

This activity can be arranged for a morning or afternoon. Typically, the agenda will be as follows.

  • Introductions (10 minutes)
  • Introducing Windows Azure (75 minutes)
  • Break (15 minutes)
  • Introducing Azure Services Platform (75 minutes)
  • Break (15 minutes)
  • Roundtable Q&A (40 minutes)
  • Wrap Up and Next Steps (10 minutes)

If there is a desire for an appreciation of the potential of cloud computing, and Microsoft’s role in the space, then this short offering is an ideal jumpstart.
