Safer Internet Day 2014: Do 1 Thing to make the Web a safer place
Did you know that Microsoft is a long-standing supporter of Safer Internet Day? Organised by Insafe, and co-founded by the European Union, SID is a global campaign that promotes a healthy Internet for everyone and encourages responsible use of online technologies and services.
Microsoft is once again helping to promote appropriate online behavior with the SID theme, "Let's create a better Internet together." This year, in addition to launching a Safer Online portal filled with resources, including the latest global results of the Microsoft Computing Safety Index we’re asking people across the UK to get involved in their own homes and offices.
Why not join us and Do 1 Thing to promote staying safer online? Getting involved is easy.
Why not:
- Use the #Do1Thing social profile picture. Download and use the #Do1Thing icon as your social media profile picture to encourage others to join the SID movement! Show your updated profile by tweeting to the @Safer_Onlinechannel or commenting on the Safer Online Facebook page and Microsoft will make a $50 USD donation to TechSoup Global.
- Join our SID Twitter party. Beginning at 7 p.m. GMT on February 11, 2014, the Microsoft @Safer_Online channel will host a #SID2014 Twitter party, and everyone’s invited! There are three ways to win prizes: participating in the party, answering the "creative question," and decoding our SID phrase. Read the official rules for details.
- Find your computing safety score. On SID, Microsoft will release the results of its annual global Microsoft Computing Safety Index. Want to know what that means for your office? You can see what your score is by taking the abbreviated MCSI survey.
- Plan your own safety event. Conduct an online safety event, large or small, in your office or community. Microsoft’s Digital Citizenship in Action Toolkit can help you plan, advertise, and deliver your presentation and event. The Toolkit contains brochures, videos, posters, Microsoft PowerPoint templates with speaker notes, and more. Although Safer Internet Day is only once a year, regularly take action to safeguard your digital world. Use and share these additional ideas to educate yourself and others in your community.
There are many things you can do to help build a better Internet. If we all just Do 1 Thing, imagine how much safer we could all be, together.
