Generation Z and the workplace - Part 3 (Guest Blog)

In the last entry we introduced you to some of the most exciting and innovative Digital Natives. So how are the Gen Z-ers fitting into the workplace?

For one, technology is no stranger to them – quite the opposite actually. They have been exposed to cloud-based technology since Day One. A Wikia study found that 25% of Z-ers are actively connected (checking email, Instagram, etc.) within 5 minutes of waking up, while 73% are connected in an hour or less.

They are a lot more tech savvy than the Millennials. They EXPECT connection to the internet anytime, anywhere and through any device. Smartphones, tables, laptop or wearable devices. 40% of children as young as 2 have used a mobile device – this shows what a big role technology plays in the lives of the Digital Natives.

What does this mean for employers? Generation Z will expect to have collaborative working available to them – namely cloud computing. They want to be able to sync up and work on documents and shared apps simultaneously. Unified Communications are a MUST. The UC interface needs to integrate a range of other business process apps and must conform with data protection and call recording regulations, which differ across industries. Face to face meetings will happen still – however through virtual environments.

Generation Z – you gotta agree – has got it all: the brains, the technology to put theories into practice and, most importantly, the urge to make the world a better place. Let’s help them do it and support them in every way possible!
