Transitioning from older versions of MSDN

One of the most popular questions we get asked is what is the transition path from older versions of MSDN to Visual Studio 2005 with MSDN?  Well here is a simple list that hopefully will show the transition paths available to you:

Current MSDN Universal subscribers

Current MSDN Universal subscribers are eligible to choose from the following 3 premium subscriptions:

No-Cost Transitional Upgrade

Visual Studio 2005 Team Editionfor Software Architects - or -

Visual Studio 2005 Team Editionfor Software Developers - or -

Visual Studio 2005 Team Editionfor Software Testers

Qualifying MSDN Universal subscribers may upgrade, at no additional cost, to one of the MSDN Premium subscriptions for the Visual Studio 2005 Team Editions for Software Developers, Architects, or Testers prior to the end of the existing retail subscription or Volume License agreement term. Please visit Transition Your Subscription for instructions.  If you would like to upgrade to Visual Studio Team Suite with MSDN Premium, there is a cost assosiated with this upgrade - speak to your preferred reseller for more details.

Current MSDN Enterprise subscribers

No-Cost Transitional Upgrade

Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Software Developers

Qualifying MSDN Enterprise subscribers have been automatically upgraded, at no additional cost, to the MSDN Premium subscription for the Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Software Developers.

Current MSDN Professional subscribers

Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition with MSDN Professional Subscription

MSDN Professional subscribers have automatically received Visual Studio 2005 Professional and transitioned to Visual Studio 2005 Professional with MSDN Professional subscription.

Current MSDN Operating Systems and MSDN Library subscribers

MSDN Operating Systems and MSDN Library subscriptions remain unchanged. These subscriptions do not include Visual Studio 2005.
