Introducing the Visual Studio ALM Rangers – Ed Elliott

Why did you want to join the ALM Rangers?

Firstly, I have been really impressed with the content that has come out of the Rangers programme. Secondly my area of expertise is database development and how to use ALM to make database development faster and more reliable. I regularly blog on how to use SSDT in Visual Studio and create CI/CD pipelines as well as writing tools to help SSDT developers. I would love to in the Ranger programme to help write tools and give guidance as part of a larger team.

Who are you?

I live in the UK in Sussex with my wife and two young children. I am a SQL Server developer who has a mixed technical background with roles in Support, as a DBA, as a Developer (vb/c/c#/java at different times) and finds automation and ALM very exciting. I now focus on ALM for databases and championing practices such as clean code, automated developer testing, continuous integration and continuous delivery/deployment.

What makes you "tick"?

I genuinely want to help improve developer practices for other SQL Server developers. I feel that it is a real shame that database development has missed the boat somewhat on ALM practices and feel that real life guidance and simple tooling will help improve this.

I love technology and want to give back to a community that has given me so much.

I live in the UK on the border between Surrey and Sussex.
