It is getting better and better. I just booted into the 32-bit XP, installed the VMware Player and pointed it to the 32-bit Windows VM I used in 64-bit Windows ... and it works, of course. But will it also run my 64-bit VM inside a 32-bit host? Point, click, launch.
Believe it or not, it is working! I will post a screenshot tomorrow as I do not have access to my server in the office to upload the screenshot. Now this is a useful scenario. You do not even need a 64-bit host to demonstrate some 64-bit stuff. All it takes is a (VMware) supported 64-bit processor and system running, a 32-bit Windows and you're ready to roll your 64-bit guests.
Haven't done any performance tests though, neither with the 64-bit host nor with the 32-bit host. Initial observations lead to the conclusion that the 32-bit host/64-bit guest scenario is a bit slower than 64-bit guest/64-bit host.
