Deleted the authenticator app on phone. How to regenrate the authentication code

Question

Thursday, March 30, 2017 1:55 AM

Hi

My wife uses outlook365 to access office email from home.

It started asking for dual authentication with Microsoft authenticator. It displayed the QR image. I installed the authenticator app on my phone to help her and generated the code. She was able to login. I thought it was a one time deal and I deleted the app.I didn't note down the code. Now, its asking her the authentication code always and is not displaying the QR image.

The app asks to scan the image when I try to install and re-add the account.

How can I regenerate the authentication code or the QR image. She is not able to login to her email on phone. Any advice is appreciated

Hi George,

According to your description, you can follow those steps to setup your app:

  1. Browse https://myapps.microsoft.com and use your wife’s account to log in, then chose Use a different verification option and text me at +xx xxxxxxxx
  2.        After login, click your account and select profile, then select Additional security verification
  3.        In this web page, we can configure the Azure Authenticator app to get a new QR code.

Here a similar case, please refer to it.

Hi George,

“I am seeing only one option which is to use the smart phone application I do not see a text option for her.”

Do you mean when you select Use a different verification option, you can’t find another verification option. Like the follow screenshot:

When we set MFA, we are asked to enter mobile number by default.

If we have not configured mobile number, we should contact your Azure AD administrator to disable your MFA settings, then enable MFA, in this way, we can re-configure authenticator app again.

Best regards,

Jason

Yes. When I use Use a different verification option it shows only smartphone app option. Guess it's Microsoft being Microsoft. I wI'll ask her to contact the admin.
