Windows 10 UsoSvc (Orchestrator Update Service) massive Event-Log Entries 0x80246007 and high CPU usage

Question

Hi,

i have the problem, that on my Windows 10 Pro (1903) the Orchestrator Update Service (UsoSvc) logs massiv errors into the system log (every 5 second) ud causes high cpu usage.

It's always the same error telling me that a Defender Update could not be installed because of "0x80246007" error (update could not be downloaded?).

My internet connection is fine, and even if the download is (temp.) not available, why is the eventlog filled up with all those messages? (why does the sevice tries it every 5 second?)

Very annoying that behaviour.

Does anyone know it, maybe any solution. It's not possible to stop the service it's always restarting.

Greets,

Ron

Hi,

Please click “check for updates” to see if any windows update issue.

Also, you could reset windows update components referring to the link below:

Hi,

thanks for ur answers David, but didn't helped at all.

Have this nearly once every week now. After some time the updates can succesfull install but untill that happens the eventlog is messed with hundreds of entries and cpu usage of "UsoSvc" is high.

Hope this gets fixed soon.

Hi,

this is still happening on my system, but what I figured out now is, that the unsuccessfull installs are logged in windows update history too

And, I can stop this by pausing the updates in Windows Update Settings and immediately resuming them. After that the failing update installs successfull.

Strange, can't understand why the "0x80246007" (can't download) error stops after pausing and resuming windows updates and why "UsoSvc" is endless trying although failing every time.
