Mass deploy/image of Windows 10 OEM

Question

Wednesday, April 11, 2018 6:05 PM

Our company has bought 50 PCs with Windows OEM licenses. To save time on deployment I was hoping to create a "golden" image (with all apps installed) and then deploy that to all of the PCs.

However.... I don't think you are allowed to do this with OEM Windows. It would be good to confirm this?

Therefore I was wondering if we buy a single volume license of windows and use that to create the image. We then deploy this to all PCs and then change to the OEM product key. Would this work and is it ok from a license agreement perspective?

Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

Alg

Hello,

If you buy a single volume license of Windows, you can reimage using the VL image.

Your 50 count of OEM licenses are still valid even though you are using VL media as long as you are using the same edition and same version.

Customers licensing software through Microsoft Commercial Licensing programs benefit from the right to use Commercial Licensing media to deploy the same standard image of software across multiple licensed devices. It does not matter whether those devices are licensed under that particular Commercial Licensing program, through an OEM, or through retail channels, so long as certain eligibility rules are followed. Using standard images can help with the following:

If it Windows 10, you're certainly able to make a master image with the official Windows 10 installer.

You can deploy this image on any PCs that have the same edition.

Hi Alg,

Yes, OEM license is also allowed to create a reference image/golden image.

Please refer to Create a Windows 10 reference image for detail steps.
