Question

Upload an excel file (size is 300KB) and click excel to open with excel web apps, it was open fine. But moment after, I clicked to view again, it cannot be open, and error is "The file you selected cannot be open because of  an internal limit that has been exceeded". But others excel file can be open fine. The log only record this message and no detail information, so I want to know what value is limit.

Hi C.S- this is odd that others don't have this problem. Normally I'd say you've surpassed the web app limit, but you're certainly under that (10mb). It could also be that the file has a lot of data validation cells or calculations, but that should be a problem for everyone. I suggest you clear your browser cache and check out the following link for more you can try:

Hi C.S Prince,

Did the issue only occur in one excel file?

To troubleshoot the issue, you could check things below:

1. clear SharePoint configuration cache. For more detailed information, you could refer to the article below.

Clearing the Configuration Cache for SharePoint.

2. Clear office web app cache. For more detailed information, you could refer to the article below.

The Office Web Applications Cache.

3. create a new library and upload the excel file to check if the same issue will occur.
