Question

Hi all,
I'd like to know the following: -
1. Is it still required to have a legal license for VS C++ 6.0? We have some old machines (about 20) that are still running programs built on that platform (and Windows 7), and want to keep a copy of the software on each machine for tracking and process debugging purposes (we didn't before, but times change). As far as I know it's already nearly impossible to buy a new copy of the software. We can't upgrade it to a new VS platform without a lot of effort.
2. If we do need licenses, how and where can we get them? We are in China, but the customer is American.
Appreciate if someone could help answer this.

Hi Alex,
Welcome to the MSDN forum.
*>> 1. Is it still required to have a legal license for VS C++ 6.0? *
Even if the support date for Visual Studio 6.0 was ended, as my understating, it is better to obtain a legal license for your Visual C++ 6.0 to use it to development.

Now we cannot supply or sale the license for it, maybe you can have a try with eBay or call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist to seek for a more professional support, since our forum is to discuss the VS IDE, sorry for this inconvenience.
Meanwhile, you can have a look at the follow similar issue with some discussions:
Where can i buy Visual Basic 6?
Best regards,
Sara

You can still get VB6 from Microsoft if you have an MSDN subscription. The VB6 programming language and IDE is available there as a download.
Otherwise try Ebay.
Microsoft still support VB6

Here is an installer here to install VB6 on Windows 7 and Windows 10
