Question

Saturday, January 25, 2014 10:05 AM

HI there,

I am working on something as follows:

-> Few mail IDs in MS outlook (XYZ@microsoft.com, abc@microsoft.com) should be configured in such a way that whenever a mail hits these mail boxes, that should be redirected to a Sharepoint library .

Incoming email settings will be limited to one Email ID   , but I want to give option to users to send to any of the mail IDs mentioned above

Please guide me

If you are saying that you want to use multiple email addresses where each one goes to a different list then just setup incoming email normally and specify the specific email you want for each list in the settings of that list.  If that is what you want to do then you can't limit incoming email settings to one ID except there will only be one ID in the settings of each list.  For the incoming emails settings at the server level you would specify an email subdomain that included all the email addresses.  That way they are all routed to SharePoint using only one MX record, but routed to each individual library based on the specific address.  For example the email setting on the server would be *.Sharepoint.domain.com and the email addresses would be xyz@sharepoint.domain.com and abc@sharepoint.domain.com

If you are saying that you want users to be able to send to any email, but only have one email identified in the incoming email settings then its not possible.

Don't use an Outlook rule. Use an Exchange Transport Rule instead.

Thanks Paul...One more question...Can the address in "Incoming Email Settings" be an existing one?

For example, I work for a company xyz and all my company people have email ids ending with xyz.com -  here xyz is the domain.

Let's say I add xyz domain in the server level settings, and add one mail ID each per list...That means.

For pqr list, the id would be abc@xyz.com..

I am trying to find out if i can use an existing email id for incoming email settings?

The DMS (Incoming Email) detects if an email address already exists in the Directory, so you won't be able to use an existing email address.

What you should do is create a unique email address on the Library, then use Exchange Transport Rules to copy the email from the XYZ@/ABC@ addresses to your new address on the Library.

I enabled incoming email settings on a list and got the mail ID "XYZ@pqr.com"

Now, in outlook, i configured a rule that whenever a mail hits my mailbox, the mail should be redirected to      " XYZ@pqr.com"

But, the redirection is not happening.

WHen I send a mail directly to XYZ@pqr.com, the list is receiving the content, but reirection to XYZ@pqr.com is not working

Can you please help
