Do you have a UDR assigned to the subnet where the VM is placed?

Also did you have any NSG which has a rule to block outbound traffic?

Do you have a Express Route to this VNET where you are getting advertised with default routes?

Hi,

Do you have 2 NICs in your Linux VM?

Can you execute the below command and share the output?

route -n

Take a look at the FAQ:

Get request timed out for my call to the service?

Metadata calls must be made from the primary IP address assigned to the network card of the VM, in addition in case you have changed your routes there must be a route for 169.254.0.0/16 address out of your network card.
