Public Folder ADSI Edit

Question

I've been experiencing an issue with Exchange which no-one seems to be able to help with but that's another story. One suggestion is to apply the latest Cumulative Update, however that fails with the same error as described here https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/eed5f1c8-e42c-4c10-9e93-c20dcb942890/exchange-2013-cu6-update-error-preparead?forum=exchangesvrdeploy - "The object 'CN=Folder Hierarchies,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=Contoso,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=contoso,DC=com' already exists."

The consensus seems to be that I should apply the fix here http://www.expta.com/2013/04/active-directory-operation-failed.html and I've confirmed that the item in Folder Heirarchies is missing.

I do have Public Folders though, they work normally.  Is creating the item described on that page going to have any impact on my existing Public Folders?

The newest computer can merely compound, at speed, the oldest problem in the relations between human beings, and in the end the communicator will be confronted with the old problem, of what to say and how to say it.

IT is full of 'experts'.

It *shouldn't*, but of course no one can guarantee 100%  of anything when changes are made.

Exchange 2007 reaches end of life on April 11th. What’s your plan to move?

Generally, it won't. If you're worried about it, take a backup of public folder mailbox/database before creating the entry in ADSIEdit.

Just after the backup finishes seems appropriate.  I'll see at the weekend...

OK.  Adding the PF entry let me install CU15, everything went smoothly - I still have Public Folders and it all seems to be working as far as I can tell.  It looks like I won't have everyone running around with their heads on fire come Monday.

Thanks folks.  :)
