Azure Recovery Services Agent Upgrade Wizard Fails to Install **Fatal Error**

Question

I recently downloaded this update for existing azure users

http://azure.microsoft.com/blog/2014/09/11/announcing-long-term-retention-for-azure-backup/

after running this update it verifies I have

Windows .Net framework 4.5 & Windows Powershell but it still fails with this error:

The Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent installation has failed.

Error : Failed to install Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent.
Problem : 1603:Fatal error during installation

I am not sure what is going on, I tried a couple of times, rebooted the server, still fails every time, when I open the program itself, it is still setup correctly and working, but it says the event log is corrupt, and the log is suppose to be in event viewer/Applications and Service Logs/Cloudbackup, but it is not there, so I have no way to clear it to fix this issue either...I guess I may have to uninstall and re-install the entire program.

My error log states this:

Product: Windows Azure Backup Agent -- Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.  Action EventsCleanup, location: C:\Program Files\Windows Azure Backup Agent\bin\ command: "C:\Windows\system32\wevtutil.exe" cl CloudBackup

I just wanted to see if anybody else is having this issue?

****UPDATE****

I found out because of the original failed install, backup was no longer working, so I would up uninstalling everything, rebooting, and re installing everything, and allowing the server to re-register, and everything is working again!

Hello!

I had the same problem. The earlier version was removed and the "upgrade" fails with a fatal error (Problem: 1603). Any updates?

Thanks,

CT

No update on my end, cannot seem to find a solution to the issue, backups are still working, but since the log is corrupt it isn't showing me anything, which I can deal with until somebody resolves this issue, I don't see any point to uninstalling and starting over since it is at least till working, hopefully somebody can chime in soon with a fix to this problem.

Can anybody else report if they are having this problem and what they have done to resolve this issue, or if it was an official issue that required the installed to be modified?

Remove the existing folder - C:\Program Files\Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent. that should resolved your issue.
