Question
Thursday, December 10, 2015 2:13 PM
Can someone please tell me where the Group Policy is to control the following setting:
On battery power, stay connected to Wi-Fi while asleep
This is for a tablet running Windows 10 Enterprise version 1511. I have installed the appropriate Group Policy ADMX templates for Windows 10 version 1511 into my AD central store but still can't find the option.
Here's the screen in question (Settings, System, Power & Sleep):

Hi AndyChips,
Please check the following gpo:
Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\Power Management\Sleep Settings, Video and Display Settings
I didn`t find a gpo related to the wifi power management(Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power). I found a registry key related to this configuration. We could try to deploy a registry key gpp. Due to the limited working environment, it is not available for me to test this configuration. You could try to capture the registry key` value by yourself.
Information about power management setting on a network adapter (The theory should also be applied to Windows 10)

If the main issue is to custom a power plan. Here is a link for reference:

Hi MeipoXu and thanks for replying.
I've been through all the documents you mention but still cannot find the relevant information. The closest solution would have been the registry change but that's almost impossible to deploy using GPO as the NIC GUID will be different for every device.
I haven't seen this particular option on previous versions of Windows and I'm not sure the Microsoft GPO boys have caught up with all the new Windows 10 tablet features.
I'll keep looking though.
Thanks,
Andy.

Hi AndyChips,
I have checked these options on a Windows 10 Pro Laptop machine. The "Wifi" option is not presented. I suspect that option is only available on tablets.
After a deep research, I found that this option could be configured with ICD(Windows Imaging and Configuration Designer) command line. I hope it will be useful for you.
"The power settings are not visible in the Windows ICD UI but appear under the main Common\Power\Policy\Settings\ namespace. This namespace is further divided into various groups "

Hi MeipoXu,
Unfortunately WICD does look to be the answer. I just need to understand how it works, as we currently use MDT.
I will not have a chance to try this before Christmas so I will report back after.
Many thanks,
Andy.

Hi MeipoXu,
No chance before Christmas, I'm afraid. I'll report back in the first two weeks of Jan. It's going to take a while to learn how to install, set up and use ICD.
Andy.
