Question

We'd like to generate a new SID for cloning. Prior to cloning, we have a setup process. We customize many server settings that we would like to have transferred to every server that we intend to image. When we use SYSPREP, it wipes out my renamed administrator account and all settings associated with the profile. I sets the system back to factory defaults. I'd just like to generate a new SID without losing any of my settings or my user profile. Does anyone know how to do this? cliff harewood

If this is Windows Vista or higher, I believe these links may help:

Hello,
sysprep does quite a bit more than just resetting the SID of the machine. there will be issues with the system if you do not use sysprep and the systems are not supported if cloned by methods other than sysprep

I would just like to change the SID of the images that I want to deploy without losing my user settings. There has got to be a simpler way. Are you telling me that I need to download and run the Windows Automated Installation Kit, create an unattend.xml file, use sysprep /generalize /``unattend:unattend.xml to copy the profile then use some other setup utility to import that profile to my new cloned server? I don't understand the entire process for one. But that is as far as I've gotten because it seems like I have to go through 10 different documents to figure out the entire process. How do I go about importing the user profile settings into the cloned server? Please forgive my frustration, but it just seems like there should be an easier way.
