Custom Start Menu Layout Not Applying

Question

Friday, August 30, 2019 2:28 PM

Hi,

So I'm trying to update my users' start layouts using Group Policy Management. All computers are running Windows 10 v1903.

When the computers were originally setup, I deployed a custom image through MDT to do all of the setup, including the start menu layout and taskbar layout and made a GPO to enforce it. Now, nothing I do will get my new start menu GPO to apply. I've tried different link locations for it within GPM, I've looked in the registry settings and manually changed the XML path from the old one to my new one,  I've tried changing the XML itself by adding and removing lines to see if that might be the issue but nothing has worked.

I'm not really sure where to go from here. Any ideas?

Hi,

If the customizations do not apply, there are two main reasons for this issue:

1.Incorrect format: Editing the xml file incorrectly by adding an extra space or spaces, entering a bad character, or saving in the wrong format.

2.Unexpected information: This occurs when possibly trying to add a tile via unexpected or undocumented method.

Please check if there is error code in the "Applications and Services\Microsoft\Windows\ShellCommon-StartLayoutPopulation\Operational" log.

Hope above information can help you.
