Introduction
Azure backup solution is one of the best Disaster Recovery Services.This article covers some of the common errors you encounter while you run the backup with detailed explanation & error codes.
Common Errors with Explanation
The following is a list of error and events you might encounter when working with Azure Backup and the Azure Backup Agent.
100001 | This backup policy cannot be saved because required items are omitted. Verify that you have configured the backup schedule, retention rules, selected valid files and folders, and then try to save the backup policy again. | ||
100002 | This backup policy cannot be saved because the files to backup are not specified. Please select files to include in the backup and then try to save the policy again. | ||
100003 | This backup policy cannot be saved because the files specified for backup are not valid. Please select valid files to include in the backup and then try to save the policy again. | ||
100004 | This backup policy cannot be saved because the backup schedule is not specified. Please select days and times on which to perform the backup and then try to save the policy again. | ||
100005 | This backup policy cannot be saved because the backup schedule is not complete. Verify that you have selected both the days and times on which to perform the backup and then try to save the policy again. | ||
100006 | This backup policy must be saved before it can be used to perform a backup. | ||
100007 | The backup policy you are attempting to delete does not exist on the server. | ||
100008 | A new backup policy cannot be created because the current server already has an existing backup policy. To create a new backup policy for this server you must first delete the previous policy. To change when backups are performed or which items are included in the backup, modify the existing policy. | ||
100009 | The backup operation that is currently running has encountered invalid parameters. Please stop the backup operation and verify the files and folders included in the backup are valid. | ||
100010 | An internal error prevented the modification of the backup policy. | ||
100011 | You must run the command shell as an administrator to use the Windows PowerShell cmdlets for Azure Backup. | ||
100012 | The server must be registered with Azure Backup before this operation can be performed. | ||
100013 | To include this volume in the backup policy you must specify at least one file or folder from the volume to include in the backup. | ||
100014 | The backup schedule specified cannot be used because it has duplicate days or times. Please remove the duplicate items before attempting to save the schedule. | ||
100015 | The backup schedule specified cannot be used. Backup schedules can only be configured to run every half an hour starting from 00:00 hrs. Please choose a backup time that is either on the hour or on the half-hour. | ||
100016 | A backup policy cannot be saved after removing the portion of the policy that identifies which files and folders to include in the backup. Either identify new files or folders to backup or delete the backup policy. | ||
100017 | The backup operation was unable to start. | ||
100018 | The recovery operation was unable to start. | ||
100019 | The current operation was unable to be stopped. | ||
100020 | The Azure Backup replication engine failed to initialize. Please try the backup operation again. | ||
100021 | Azure Backup Agent could not connect to the service to determine the state of the current operation. | ||
100022 | The encryption passphrase for this server is not set. Please configure an encryption passphrase. The encryption passphrase can be configured from theAzure Backup Agent MMC snap-in. In the Action pane, click Properties and then click the Encryption settings tab. Type the passphrase you want to use for encryption of backups in the space provided. | ||
100023 | The encryption passphrase stored for this computer is not correctly configured. The encryption passphrase can be configured from the Azure Backup Agent MMC snap-in. In the Action pane, click Properties and then click the Encryption settings tab. Type the passphrase used for encryption of backups in the space provided. | ||
100024 | The encryption passphrase provided does not match with passphrase associated with the following server: %ServerName Please update the server settings with the current passphrase for data encryption. | ||
100025 | The encryption passphrase for this server has expired. Please update the server settings with a new passphrase for data encryption. | ||
100027 | Azure Backup is unable to obtain the encryption keys needed to perform the restore. Please contact Microsoft Support. | ||
100028 | The volume specified for the backup is configured as a read-only drive and cannot be backed up using Azure Backup. | ||
100029 | The volume specified for the backup is a cluster shared volume and cannot be backed up using Azure Backup. | ||
100030 | Azure Backup was unable to initialize a backup storage location with the backup service. Review the error details and event logs and take appropriate action. Then try the operation again. | ||
100031 | Azure Backup was unable to initialize the local storage location required to perform the backup. Review the error details and event logs and take appropriate action. Then try the operation again. | ||
100032 | Azure Backup encountered an unexpected error at the completion of the backup operation. This backup might not be recoverable. Review the error details and event logs and take appropriate action. Then try the operation again. | ||
100033 | Azure Backup was unable to create a snapshot of the selected volume. Review the error details and event logs and take appropriate action. Then try the operation again. | ||
100034 | Azure Backup encountered an unexpected error at the completion of the backup operation. This backup might not be recoverable. Review the error details and event logs and take appropriate action. Then try the operation again. | ||
100035 | Azure Backup encountered an unexpected failure while transferring data to the service. This backup might not be recoverable. Review the error details and event logs and take appropriate action. Then try the operation again. | ||
100036 | Azure Backup encountered an unexpected error during the backup operation. This backup might not be recoverable. Review the error details and event logs and take appropriate action. Then try the operation again. | ||
100037 | The current operation was cancelled by the administrator. | ||
100038 | The current operation failed to complete successfully. See the data source error details for more information. | ||
100039 | The volume specified for backup does not exist on the server. Check that the volume exists and is accessible. | ||
100040 | The volume specified for backup is not a fixed volume. Azure Backup can only be used with fixed volumes. | ||
100041 | The volume specified for backup is currently protected by BitLocker Drive Encryption. You must unlock the volume before it can be backed up by Azure Backup. Ensure that the volume is unlocked and then try the operation again. | ||
100042 | The encryption passphrase for this computer is not correctly configured. Encryption passphrases must be at least 16 characters in length. Specify a passphrase that is at least 16 characters in length to proceed. | ||
100043 | The encryption passphrase for this computer is not correctly configured. Encryption passphrases must be at least 16 characters in length. Specify a passphrase that is at least 16 characters in length to proceed. | ||
100044 | The encryption passphrases entered do not match. Ensure that both the entered passphrases match and then proceed. | ||
100045 | This backup policy cannot be saved because the retention settings are not configured correctly. Use the Schedule Backup wizard to configure the policy again. | ||
100046 | Azure Backup Agent was unable to start the Azure Backup service. This service is required to perform any backup or recovery operation. Review the error details and event logs and take appropriate action. Then try the operation again. | ||
100047 | Backup policy settings cannot be modified when a backup or recovery operation is in progress. Wait until the operation finishes or cancel the currently running operation, and then try again. | ||
100048 | The number of encryption keys for the server has exceeded the maximum limit. Please contact Microsoft Support. | ||
100049 | The operation attempted cannot be performed at this time because a backup or restore operation is currently running. Wait until the operation finishes or cancel the currently running operation, and then try again. | ||
100050 | The Azure Backup Agent was unable to connect to the Azure Backup service. Check your network settings and ensure that you are able to connect to the internet. | ||
100051 | The Azure Backup Agent was unable to connect to the Azure Backup service before the connection request timed out. Check your network settings and ensure that you are able to connect to the internet. | ||
100052 | The Azure Backup Agent cannot connect to the OBEngine service. Verify that the OBEngine service is present in the Services Control Panel and that the assigned port is available. | ||
100053 | Unable to get a response from the OBEngine service on this server. This may be because the OBEngine service is busy processing other requests. Retry this operation after some time. | ||
100054 | Azure Backup has detected file corruption when verifying the latest back up. A new recovery point could not be created. The next backup will attempt to transfer the data again. If the issue persists, contact Microsoft support. | ||
100055 | An unexpected error caused the backup verification process to fail. Review the error details and take appropriate action. Then try the operation again. | ||
100056 | The file name cannot contain any of the following characters: " \ / : * ? < > | Searching for items to recover using the wildcard character (*) is only supported for patterns like *abc*, abc* or *abc. Review the error details and take appropriate action. Then try the operation again. |

100057 | The current backup operation failed because the number of data transfer failures was more than the allowed number of failures. Specified files could not be processed. Review the list of failed files and either exclude them from backup or address the individual errors in the log. Then try the backup operation again. | ||
100058 | The current recovery operation failed because the number of data transfer failures was more than the allowed number of failures. Specified files could not be processed. Select another recovery point and try the recovery operation again. | ||
100059 | The operation failed as the log file could not be created. | ||
100060 | The backup job failed as none of the files could be processed. Review the list of failed files and exclude them from backup, or address the individual errors in the log. Then retry the operation. | ||
100061 | The recovery job failed as none of the files could be processed. Select another recovery point and retry the operation. | ||
100062 | The server registration status could not be verified with Azure Backup. Verify that you are connected to the internet and that proxy server settings are configured correctly. Then refresh the Azure Backup Agent MMC snap-in to update the server registration status. | ||
100064 | Backup cannot be configured to run more than once a day. Choose exactly one time of day to run your scheduled backup. | ||
100065 | Backups can be retained for 7, 15, or 30 days.and not any other value. Choose whether to retain your backups for 7, 15, or 30 days | ||
100066 | The current operation failed due to an internal service error [%InputParameterTag;]. Please retry the operation after sometime. If the issue persists, contact Microsoft Support. | ||
100067 | The operation failed because the Azure Backup Agent was unable to contact the service. Verify that you are connected to the internet and that proxy server settings are configured correctly and then try again. If the issue persists contact Microsoft support. | ||
100068 | Recovery of files and folders to a network share is not allowed. Please choose volume on a disk on which to recover your files and folders. | ||
100069 | Azure Backup could not find the recovery location. Make sure that specified recovery location is online and accessible. | ||
100070 | The specified recovery location is invalid. Select a valid location for recovery and try again. Choose a volume on disk as recovery location. To use a volume as a recovery location the volume must be formatted using NTFS and writable. Network shares and removable media such as DVD drive and USB flash drives are not supported. | ||
100071 | The specified volume for backup is invalid. Choose a volume on disk as backup source. To backup a volume the volume must be formatted using NTFS and writable. Clustered shared volumes, network shares and removable media such as DVD drives and USB flash drives are not supported. | ||
100072 | The backup operation failed due to inadequate disk space. Choose a volume with adequate space for the operation. | ||
100073 | The backup operation failed because the maximum allowed data source size was exceeded. Reduce the amount of data included in the backup and retry the operation. | ||
100074 | VSS Snapshot created for backup disappeared while backup was in progress. Please retry the backup. If the issue persists try to increase diff area allocation using 'vssadmin' command-line tool and verify that you have installed the latest updates. | ||
100075 | A failure occurred while adding one or more of the volumes involved in backup operation to the snapshot set. Please check the event log to troubleshoot the issue. Check recent records from the VolSnap data source in the Application Event Log to find out why the problem occurred. | ||
100076 | This operation cannot be performed because the file system has case-sensitivity enabled. Case-sensitive file servers are not supported. | ||
100077 | The specified file path is invalid for one or more of the following reasons: - File name cannot contain any of the following characters <>:"/\|? - File path cannot contain any of the following characters <>:"/\|*? - File path cannot be specified as a relative path. It cannot contain . and .. - File location cannot be specified using UNC path. If the file location path uses a relative path or a UNC path, change the file path to use an absolute path. If the file name or folder contains an unsupported character, you must rename the items before they can be backed up. |

100079 | The specified file name path is invalid because it refers to a path that cannot be found. Verify the file path is correct and then try again. | ||
100080 | The specified file name path is invalid because it is under a reparse point. You cannot backup files that are under a reparse point. Specify a file path that contains the destination of the reparse point, and then try again. | ||
100081 | The specified file name path is invalid for one or more of the following reasons: - It refers to a path that is not on the local server - It is not a valid driver letter based file path Specify a drive letter based file path, for example, C:\folder\subfolder\*.txt or C:\mnt\E_vol\1.txt, and then try again. |

100082 | A newer version of Azure Backup Agent is available. | ||

100091 | Azure Backup Agent was unable to backup a file. | ||
110001 | The backup could not be started because the specified virtual hard drive could not be mounted. Ensure that the scratch space configured for backup is located in an unencrypted and uncompressed folder. | ||
110002 | The backup could not be started because of an unexpected error in the virtual disk service. Restart the virtual disk service and try the backup operation again. If the issue persists, check the system event log for virtual disk service events. | ||
110003 | The backup could not be started because a connection to the backup service was not available. Please verify the following: - Internet connectivity is available - Your network configuration settings are correctly provided |

170017 | The backup failed as the total size of the data that has been backed up has exceeded the quota limit for your organization. To prevent backup failures for subsequent scheduled backups: - Reduce retention range of your backups so that older backups are deleted. - Remove any registered server from the backup vault list if it is not being used so that space is not allocated to that server. |

260001 | A recovery point is not available for the requested time parameters. Retry the recovery operation using a different time parameter. Backups are stored for 30 days by default. | ||
260002 | A recovery point for the specified server does not exist with the requested time and date parameters. Retry the operation with either a different time and date parameter or a different server name. | ||
260003 | Your organization is not currently subscribed to Azure Backup. Verify that your subscription is up to date and that you have used the correct administrative account. If the problem persists, please contact Microsoft Support for assistance. | ||

260014 | Current backup operations have been paused because the backup service has recovered from a serious error. As a result of this recovery, backup settings might have been modified. Please review and verify that the backup settings are correct. Once you have saved the backup schedule, backup operations will resume according to your schedule. 280001 | The proxy server address specified is not a valid URI. | ||
280002 | The proxy port specified should be a number between 1 and 65535. | ||
280003 | A user name has not been specified to use for proxy server authentication. | ||
280004 | A password has not been specified to use for proxy server authentication. | ||
280005 | The bandwidth usage for network throttling must be between 256 Kbps and 1 Gbps. | ||
280006 | You must select at least one working day to apply network throttling settings. | ||
280007 | The start and end work hours specified for network throttling settings are the same. Please choose different start and end work hours. | ||
280008 | The configuration settings for this server were not able to be saved at this time. Please retry the operation. | ||
280009 | The configuration settings for this server were not able to be retrieved at this time. Please retry the operation. | ||
280010 | If the proxy server requires authentication, please specify username and password. | ||
280011 | Azure Backup could not connect to the proxy server. Please check the server settings and verify that the proxy server address is correct. | ||
260024 | Backup service is under maintenance, the operation will not complete now. Retry the operation after some time. If the problem persists, please contact Microsoft Support for assistance. |

816510 | The Error points to this page, appears to be because of some locked files failing to update on the server. Placing the Alert here until a solution becomes available.
