Windows 7: Choosing a Deployment Strategy

There are four key deployment strategies recommended by Microsoft for Windows 7 Deployment that will be discussed. Each deployment strategy should be reviewed thoroughly to find the one that will meet the needs for your organization.

1. High-Touch with Retail Media

This strategy is for companies that have a small unmanaged network with fewer than 100 client computers and no dedicated information technology (IT) Professional.

2. High Touch with Standard Image

This strategy is similar to the High-Touch with Retail Media strategy, but it includes operating system image that is customized to fit your organization’s needs. The strategy is recommended for companies with 100-200 client computers, and should have at least one IT Professional on staff.

3. Lite-Touch, High-Volume Deployment

This strategy is recommended for organizations with 200-500 client computers and is recommended to have a dedicated IT staff. No prior deployment experience is necessary, but is recommended for the IT staff. The strategy requires limited interaction in the beginning of the installation but does not require any more interaction for the rest of the installation as it is automated.

4. Zero-Touch, High-Volume Deployment

This strategy is recommended for organizations with 500+ client computers. This strategy requires no interaction during deployment. The deployment requires an IT staff with expertise in Windows deployment, networking, and Configuration Manager 2007 R2 products.

The skill level of the IT staff should be considered also when choosing the deployment method. Also, there is a cost factor to consider when choosing a deployment method.
