Smarter Drafter is a legal document automation platform used by law firms and in-house legal teams. This MCP server lets an AI agent — including agents built for Microsoft 365 Copilot with Copilot Studio — complete Smarter Drafter forms and produce the finished documents on the signed-in user's behalf, entirely through natural language.

What you can do:

  • Discover the forms the signed-in user is authorised to access
  • Read a form's field schema, grouped by section, with labels, validation rules and option lists
  • Create and submit a form submission, or save it as a draft and update it later
  • Retrieve the generated documents (DOCX, EML, PDF)

Access is authenticated per user via OAuth 2.0 (authorisation code flow) and scoped to that user's Smarter Drafter permissions — the agent can never see forms or data outside the signed-in user's authorised role.

Account dependency: An active Smarter Drafter account is required to use this app. The email address you sign in with must match an existing Smarter Drafter user — there is no self-service sign-up through this app. To create an account for your firm, book a demo via the sign-up link below.

Limitations:

  • Only published standard forms the signed-in user is authorised to access are available; draft and deleted forms are not returned.
  • Document generation is asynchronous and typically completes within 5–60 seconds; download links expire after 5 minutes to maintain strict access control over sensitive documents, and fresh links can be requested at any time.
  • File-upload fields must be populated on a draft submission before it is submitted; files are uploaded from a publicly reachable URL and capped at 50 MB.
  • Submissions can only be edited while saved as a draft; once a submission is finalised its answers are locked and the documents are generated. To change a finalised submission, create a new one.
