Accommodations for Microsoft Certifications

Microsoft is committed to making exams fair and accessible to everyone.

Categories of accommodations available

  • Additional time

    If you need more time to process information due to disability or because you are taking an exam in your non-native language, you can request it in advance and with supporting documentation.

  • Use of assistive technology and devices

    If you use screen readers, speech-to-text software, or other accessible input devices, we can configure your exam to support them with advanced notice.

  • Another person present

    When you need someone with you while testing, such as personal care assistant, reader, or scribe, we can allow this with advanced notice and supporting documentation.

  • Sensory accommodations

    If you have sensory related needs, such as reading aloud, moving, chewing gum, snacks, noise canceling headphones, or adjusted lighting, we can allow them with advanced notice.

Examples of commonly requested accommodations by disability

Blind or low vision
  • Assistive technology, such as screen reader software, Magnifier, ZoomText, or braille input device
  • Reader / Scribe
Deaf or hard of hearing
  • Sign Language Interpreter
Learning, mental health or neurodiversity
  • Ability to read aloud
  • Extra exam time
  • Moving during the exam

How the process works

  • Step 1: Decide on your accommodations and gather any required documentation

    The accommodations you need may differ if you are testing online or in person. Accommodations require advanced notification or approval with supporting documentation before scheduling your exam.

  • Step 2: Submit the request with the exam provider

    Pearson VUE delivers exams for technical professionals and manages the accommodation process.

  • Step 3: Get verification and register for your exam

    It may take up to 10 business days for your request to be approved. After it has been approved, you will be able to call and schedule your exam over the phone.

If the exam is not available in your native language

Use the English as a Second Language form to request additional time. Extra time will only be provided if the exam is not available in your native language.

Allowed items and assistive technology

At testing centers, some types of equipment don’t require advanced notice or an accommodation request. However, the equipment may be inspected.

  • Select medicine and medical devices

    Eye drops, eyeglasses, hearing aids, inhalers, and oxygen tanks

  • Mobility devices

    Canes, crutches, motorized scooters/chairs, walkers, and wheelchairs

  • Other allowed items

    Earplugs, noise reducing headphones (non-Bluetooth), face masks/gloves, and tissues (conditions apply)
