Extensions monitoring

Extensions monitoring in the Microsoft Edge management service helps admins understand and manage browser extensions across their organization. Extensions can often introduce security, privacy, and compliance risks when installed without visibility or oversight. This feature provides centralized insights so admins can make informed decisions about extension settings to maintain a secure and productive browsing environment while managing Edge for Business at scale.

Note

This feature is currently in public preview and can be accessed by opting into targeted release in the M365 admin center.

Overview

Extensions monitoring surfaces aggregated details about extensions running in your managed browsers, providing a consolidated view of extension activity across the organization. This visibility helps identify widely used extensions, understand where extensions are being blocked, and assess potential risk areas.

Note

Extensions data is currently only available for Windows devices.

Enabling extensions monitoring

Extensions monitoring is an opt-in capability in the Microsoft Edge management service. To view your extensions inventory, you must first turn on the toggle to Enable monitoring dashboard. This is a mandatory step to ensure that Microsoft Edge receives the necessary diagnostic data to keep the browser secure, up to date, and performing as expected. Then, turn on the toggle for Extensions monitoring. This configures the CloudProfileReportingEnabled setting across your tenant in a configuration policy.

Once enabled, data from your managed browsers will be collected and surfaced in the extensions monitoring page, including installed extensions and any user requests for blocked extensions. Data will only be received from user profiles that have a matching identity tenant to the tenant that's managing the browser. If a user signs into multiple devices, the extensions report will only be received from the most recently signed in device.

Extensions monitoring works alongside your existing configuration policies by providing the insights you need to review extensions usage and manage extension settings in one centralized location.

Managing extension requests

Extensions that have been requested by your users will now appear on this page, along with their existing location within a configuration policy. You'll see all active extension requests at the top of the page and can click into them to update the installation setting for the extension within individual configuration policies. If you no longer wish to see this request, you may Mark as resolved to move it to your Resolved extension requests list. To clear all extensions from this section, you may Delete all requests.
