Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 Release

The Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 download is a full install and required for new installations or upgrades from previous versions. Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 supports upgrades from Microsoft Dynamics AX 3.0 Service Pack 4 (or higher) or Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 Service Pack 1 (or higher).

NOTE: Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 is now available as the latest update to Microsoft Dynamics® AX 2009. The Microsoft Dynamics® AX 2009 download available here is a prerequisite to Service Pack 1.

Overview

Microsoft Dynamics® AX 2009 has recently been released and will soon be available to customers in a number of countries and regions (see below, Price List Availability). This page includes links to documentation resources that help you install, upgrade, and learn more about this release of Microsoft Dynamics® AX. License Information

License Keys will be available for Microsoft Dynamics® AX 2009 after the General Availability (GA) date, June 1st, 2008 according to the Price List Availability

Partners/Customers located in countries/regions where Microsoft Dynamics® AX 2009 is Generally Available can obtain license keys through the same processes currently in use for Microsoft Dynamics® AX 4.0. Depending on the location of the Partner/Customer, these processes may include going to their company’s account in PartnerSource/CustomerSource and/or requesting license keys from their Regional Operations Center.

Support Lifecycle

Service packs and minor releases within each major release will be supported until one year after the release of the following service pack or minor release. For example, Microsoft Dynamics® AX 2009 will be supported until one year after the release of Microsoft Dynamics® AX 2009 SP1. Microsoft Dynamics® AX 2009 SP1 will be supported until one year after the release of Microsoft Dynamics® AX 2009 SP2, and so on. These updates are a benefit of the Microsoft Dynamics® AX Enhancement Plan, and we expect that customers keep their solution updated to the most recent service pack or minor release. Support expiration dates for Microsoft Dynamics® AX 2009 are available at Microsoft Support Lifecycle and Lifecycle Supported Service Packs.

System Requirements

Before installing Microsoft Dynamics® AX, review the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 system requirements to ensure that the system you are working with meets or exceeds the minimum network, hardware, and software requirements. The System Requirements also include links to prerequisite software that needs to be downloaded and installed depending on AX components being installed.

Installation/Upgrade Notes

Before you install or upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics® AX 2009, review the Known Issues (htm). Then view the Installation Guide or Upgrade Guide for installation or upgrade instructions.

  1. The Installation Guide (pdf) provides step-by-step instructions for installing Microsoft Dynamics® AX 2009 components. This document also includes instructions for performing initial configuration using the initialization checklist.

  2. The Upgrade Guide (pdf) provides information about upgrading from Microsoft Dynamics® AX 3.0 (formerly known as Microsoft Business Solutions–Axapta 3.0) with a supported service pack or from Microsoft Dynamics® AX 4.0 to Microsoft Dynamics® AX 2009. This document also includes troubleshooting information for upgrade tasks, best practices for upgrading, installation steps as they pertain to the upgrade process, and application upgrade issues for specific features.
