Overview of custom connectors in Dynamics 365 Sustainability

Important

Some or all of this functionality is available as part of a preview release. The content and the functionality are subject to change. Preview features aren't intended for production use and might have restricted functionality. These features are subject to supplemental terms of use, and are available before an official release so that customers can get early access and provide feedback.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sustainability imports data from multiple sources. You can import data from most data sources by using Power Query and Excel templates without any customizations. However, some proprietary data sources require special REST or other customizations. As a partner, you can extend Dynamics 365 Sustainability by developing import connector extensions. You can then share the connectors privately with your customers or publicly through Microsoft Marketplace.

Depending on your requirements, you can build a custom connector by using one of these methods:

Prerequisites

You need the following prerequisites to build an import connector:

  • Administrator and developer privileges
  • Advanced knowledge of Power Platform extensibility mechanisms
  • Advanced skills in developing solutions by using Power Automate and/or Power Query templates
  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft for Sustainability data model for the entities you're importing
  • An understanding of your data source structure and schema. Design the mapping from your data schema to the Microsoft for Sustainability data model and identify Dynamics 365 Sustainability entities that the connector hydrates.
  • An environment with Dynamics 365 Sustainability installed
  • A premium license for Power Automate if you're not using Dynamics 365 Sustainability Premium
  • Understand terminologies used in Dynamics 365 Sustainability data import like connection, connection refresh, sustainability data definition
  • Recommended: Review and acquaint yourself with Power Automate cloud flows
  • For Dataverse triggers and actions, see Overview of how to integrate Power Automate flows with Dataverse and Trigger flows when a row is added, modified, or deleted
