Before you begin working in Project management and accounting, you can configure many project-related preferences and default values in the Project management and accounting parameters form. By presetting default values, you can reduce some of the manual data entry that is required when new projects and project transactions are created.

Click Project management and accounting > Setup > Project management and accounting parameters.

Description

General

Select preferences for transaction adjustments, and choose whether transactions are displayed according to price, ledger updates, or line amounts.

Specify the default project type and default identification format for subprojects.

Activate validation requirements for projects, workers, and categories.

Financial

Set up the level of detail for projects when they are posted to the general ledger and WIP ledger.

Set up sales tax options for projects.

Scheduling

Set up options for scheduling workers on projects.

Specify the default percentage to use to match a worker’s skills and availability to the requirements for projects.

Journals

Specify whether to automatically reset the accounting dates to an open ledger period if a journal is posted to a closed period.

Select default journal names and default categories for the various transaction types.

Specify whether an activity must be specified for entries that are made in hour journals, expense journals, and item journals.

Timesheet

Choose options for how timesheets are managed and how timesheet journals are posted.

Invoice

Specify preferences for on-account invoicing, project contracts, credit limits, and invoice approvals.

Set up funding allocation preferences for project contracts that have multiple funders.

Forecast

Select the default forecast model.

Select the payment date calculation values for cash flow forecasts and forecast models.

Specify whether an activity must be specified for entries that are made in hour forecasts, expense forecasts, and item forecasts.

Estimate

Set up preferences for the estimate elimination and committed costs functionality.

Hour utilization

Define how billable rates and efficiency rates are calculated for each project type.

Project statements

Select whether to include hour quantities, hour costs, and item costs that are set as “No/Never ledger” in your Profit and Loss and Consumption statements.

Define how P&L ratios are calculated. Specify decimal preferences for reports.

Cost control

Set up cost control methods, define default forecast models, set up budget control preferences, and enable committed cost tracking.

Forecast reduction

Configure options for hour forecasts, expense forecasts, and item forecasts.

Inventory dimensions

Specify whether individual inventory dimensions are displayed in item consumption lists, and whether dimensions can be entered on quotation lines.

Production

Set up options for production, production-consumed, and capacity planning.

Project stage

Select whether to include hour quantities, hour costs, and item costs that are set as “No/Never ledger” in your Profit and Loss and Consumption statements.

Define how P&L ratios are calculated.

Specify decimal preferences for reports.

Vendor contract language

Enter text to print on purchase orders for vendor retentions and pay-when-paid contract terms.

Note

This control is available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 or AX 2012 R3 is installed.

Number sequences

Set up the number sequence codes to use with various document types, such as project identifiers, invoices, project contracts, timesheets, billing rules, vendor retentions, and customer retentions.
