View software update status for Exchange Server

The Software updates (Preview) page in the Microsoft 365 admin center displays a high-level overview of the installation status for Microsoft 365 Apps, Windows updates, and Exchange Server updates and out-of-support status in your environment. Ensuring these updates are installed is important because they help protect you from known vulnerabilities. The Software updates (Preview) page allows you to determine the overall update status of your servers.
The Software updates (Preview) page has the following tabs to assist you in monitoring update status for your devices:
Microsoft 365 Apps: Displays data for security updates for Microsoft 365 Apps. To learn more, see View software update status for Microsoft 365 Apps installations.
Windows: Displays data for cumulative updates and feature updates for Windows clients. To learn more, see Microsoft admin center software updates (preview) page.
Exchange Server: Displays data for cumulative and security updates and identifies out-of-support servers.

The Exchange Server tab
To view the Software updates (Preview) page, sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center with your admin account, and then go to Show all > Health > Software updates (Preview).
Tip
If you don't see an entry for Software updates (Preview) in the menu, try going to this URL: https://admin.microsoft.com/Adminportal/Home#/softwareupdates.
The Exchange Server tab shows the following information about servers in your organization that have Exchange Server installed:
- How many Exchange servers need cumulative updates
- How many Exchange servers need security updates
- How many Exchange servers are out of support
The Exchange Server tab doesn't list the specific servers that are one or more builds behind.
Cumulative updates for Exchange Server
Microsoft releases Cumulative Updates (CUs) for Exchange Server twice a year. These updates address issues reported by customers. CUs may also include new features and functionality.
To get a list of all the server names associated with your tenant, select View Servers.
Security updates for Exchange Server
Security updates (SUs) are packages that address a Microsoft-released security bulletin or that contain a change in time zone definitions. When in Mainstream Support, SUs are released as needed for the most recently released CU and for the immediately previous CU. When in Extended Support, SUs are released as needed but only for the latest CU.
To get a list of all the server names associated with your tenant, select View Servers.
Exchange Servers that are out-of-support
Out-of-support versions can leave your servers and data vulnerable to security threats and cause software issues. For more information regarding supportability and product lifecycles, see Exchange Server supportability matrix or Microsoft product and services lifecycle information.
