Create a store listing for a game

Important

This topic describes features that are only available to Managed Creators with appropriate permissions. For details, speak to your Microsoft contacts.

This article explains the steps to create an English Store listing. The Store listing contains text and art assets displayed to customers on the product's Product Details Page (PDP) in the Microsoft Store.

Important

This article explains how to create an English language Store listing. Review your publishing agreement with Microsoft, the Xbox Games Store Policy (available in the Xbox Publisher Guide), and the Microsoft Store Policies to confirm the requirements for additional Store listing languages.

Assets uploaded to your Store listings must meet the requirements specified for each device family your game is released for. Before creating any assets, see Store listing conceptsAuthorization required for detailed specifications.

Prerequisites

  1. Sign in to Partner Center.
  2. On the Home page, select Apps and games.
  3. On the Apps and games | Overview page, select your game. Or, enter your game's name in the search bar and then select your game.
  4. On the Game overview page, select Store listings from the left navigation pane.

Create a Store listing in one language

To complete the Store listings module, you must create a Store listing for at least one language. We recommend creating a Store listing for each language that is spoken in the markets where you'll release your game. Review your publishing agreement with Microsoft, the Xbox Games Store Policy (available in the Xbox Publisher Guide) and the Microsoft Store Policies to confirm the requirements for additional Store listing languages.

  1. Navigate to the Store listings page
  2. On the Store listings page, check that you're on the Main branch or tab. To learn more about branching, see Branching and sandboxesAuthorization required.
  3. Select Manage additional languages.
  4. To create an English language store listing, on the pop-up overlay, use the dropdown to quickly filter the language/locale combinations. Select Top-level languages, enter English in the search box. Select the checkbox next to English, then select Update.
  5. Back on the Store listings page, you'll now find an entry for the English store listing added to the table. If you selected multiple languages/locales in the earlier step, all of them will be added too. You'll also see the Store listing complete/incomplete status and the creation date.
  6. To customize the English language store listing, select English under the Language column and then complete each section of the page that opens.
  7. Select Save draft to save your progress.
  8. If you change your mind and wish to remove a Store listing language, return to the Store listings overview and then select Remove in the Action column for that language.

Sections within each Store listing

Text

  1. On the Store listings page, select English under the Language column. If you don't have an entry in the table yet, see Create a store listing in one language.
  2. By default, your game's reserved product name appears in the Product name dropdown menu. If you've reserved more than one name for your game, use the dropdown menu to specify which one should be used in the Store listing. Select Reserve more names to reserve more names for your game.
  3. In Description, enter information that tells customers about your game and what it does. A description must be entered to complete the Store listings module.
  4. In What's new in this version, indicate changes that have occurred in your game since its previous update. If this is the first submission of your product, leave this field blank.
  5. In the Product features section, describe your game's key features. These features will be displayed as a bullet list in your Store listing.
    • Each row in the Product features section describes one feature. This field has a 200-character limit. To describe another feature, select the Add more link. You can add up to 20 different features.
  6. Select Save draft.

Screenshots

Screenshots should be screen captures or game artwork that visually communicate the content in your game.

The image size requirements vary depending on the device family. Select the device family names (Desktop, Mobile, Xbox, Holographic) to view the image requirements on the right.

Screenshots recommendation for games

We recommend uploading at least four screenshots per supported device family. Make sure to check that screenshots uploaded meet the device family requirements. For details, see Screenshot requirementsAuthorization required.

  • Desktop (Recommended if your game is available on PC)
  • Mobile (Not needed for PC and Console products)
  • Xbox (Screenshots are required)
  • Holographic (Not needed for PC and Console products)

Upload screenshots for the Xbox device family

  1. Select the Xbox tab.
  2. Drag and drop your screenshot onto the upload box that appears in the Screenshot section. Alternatively, select the upload box and browse to your files. Make sure the screenshot meets the Xbox screenshot requirementsAuthorization required.
  3. Note that after you upload one screenshot, another upload box appears. This allows you to continue uploading screenshots.
  4. Optionally, select Add Alt Text to add alt text to the image. Alt text should describe the image and convey its purpose to the user in 1-2 sentences.
  5. Select Save draft when you finish adding your screenshots.
  6. Repeat the steps to upload more images. You can upload a maximum of 30 screenshots for your game. The number next to each device family tab indicates the number of files uploaded.

Repeat these steps as necessary, for each device family supported by your game.

Store logos

The Store logos section is where you upload images to enhance your game's listing for potential customers in the Microsoft Store. We recommend that you provide these images so that your Store listing appears optimally on all of the devices and OS versions supported by your game. Uploading Store logos is required for Xbox games. You can upload artwork for the following categories.

  • 9:16 Poster art: Highly recommended. Used as the main logo on Windows 10/11 and required for Xbox games.
  • 1:1 Box art: Recommended for best display. May be used in Microsoft Store layouts. Used as your main logo if 9:16 Poster art isn't provided.
  • 1:1 App tile icon: Optional for PC and Console games.

Upload Store logos artwork

  1. Drag and drop an image to the 9:16 Poster art upload box. Alternatively, select the upload box and browse to your files. If the image does not meet the 9:16 Poster Art requirements, an error dialog will appear. For requirements, see Poster artAuthorization required.
  2. Repeat the above step for the 1:1 Box art and the 1:1 App tile icon (if required). For requirements, see Box artAuthorization required.
  3. Select Save draft when you finish adding your Store logos.

If you want customers on Windows 10/11 and Xbox devices to see the uploaded logo images instead of the images you'll include in the MSIXVC or XVC package you create for your game, select For customers on Windows 10/11 and Xbox, display uploaded logo images instead of the images from my packages. Note that a new Store display images section appears with three upload boxes. The process for uploading images to the Store display images section is the same as the steps above. The 300 x 300 1:1 app tile is required.

Trailers and additional assets

The Trailers and additional assets section is where you provide artwork to display your game more effectively in the Microsoft Store. We recommend providing these images to create an engaging PDP. Trailers are short videos that give customers a way to see your product in action and get a better understanding of what it's like. Trailers are shown at the top of your game's Store listing as long as you include thumbnail images to accompany them.

Upload a trailer and thumbnail

  1. In the Trailers and additional assets section, select browse your files, and then go to the folder where the trailer is located.
  2. Select the trailer to start uploading it. You can also use the Select from existing trailers dropdown menu to reuse a trailer you've already uploaded. An error message will appear if the video file doesn't meet requirements.
  3. After uploading the trailer successfully, select the pencil icon to add a title for the trailer and upload a 1920 x 1080 image as the video's thumbnail.
  4. To make trailers more accessible for users with disabilities, you can also upload closed captions and audio descriptions.
  5. If you want to add more trailers to the listing, repeat the steps listed above. You can include a maximum of 30 trailers.
  6. To delete a trailer and its accompanying thumbnail, select the X next to its name. A dialog appears asking whether you want to remove the trailer from this store listing or from all store listings.
  7. Select Save draft when you finish.

Select a trailer to appear at the top of Store listing

  1. Go to Windows 10 and Xbox image section and upload a 1920 x 1080 or 3840 x 2160 image. This image is used as the 16:9 "hero" promotional image that plays after trailer that appears at the top of the Store listing finishes playing. This is a required image if you want a trailer to appear at the top of the Store listing.
  2. Under Choose a trailer to play at the top of your Store listing, select one of the uploaded trailers.

Additional assets

If your game will be available on Xbox, provide the recommended additional assets.

  • Titled hero art must include the product's title in the top 2/3 of the image
  • Featured promotional square art must not include the product's title

For more information, see Store listing - Art assets reference listAuthorization required.

Supplemental fields

The fields in the Supplemental fields section are all optional. In particular, the Short title is recommended for most games. It's a shorter version of your game's name and is displayed in various places in the Xbox user interface, for example Achievement notifications.

The other fields may help provide an optimal experience for your product in different scenarios. For details, see Store listing - Supplemental fieldsAuthorization required.

Add additional system requirements

The Additional system requirements section describes minimum and recommended hardware configurations that customers need to play your game. These requirements are in addition to the information provided in Technical Capabilities of the Properties page. This section is especially important if your game requires hardware that isn't available on every computer. These items are displayed in a bulleted list in your game's Microsoft Store listing.

Additional information

You can use the fields in the Additional information section of the Store listings page to help customers discover and better understand your game. For the full list of fields and descriptions, see Store listing - Additional informationAuthorization required.

Note

The Copyright and trademark info field has a 200-character limit. If this limit is exceeded, your Store listing might save but show as Incomplete.
