Get emailAuthenticationMethod

Retrieve a user's single email authentication method object.

Permissions

One of the following permissions is required to call this API. To learn more, including how to choose permissions, see Permissions.

Permissions acting on self

Permission type	Permissions (from least to most privileged)
Delegated (work or school account)	UserAuthenticationMethod.Read, UserAuthenticationMethod.ReadWrite
Delegated (personal Microsoft account)	Not supported.
Application	Not supported.

Permissions acting on other users

Delegated (work or school account)	UserAuthenticationMethod.Read.All, UserAuthenticationMethod.ReadWrite.All
Delegated (personal Microsoft account)	Not supported.
Application	UserAuthenticationMethod.Read.All, UserAuthenticationMethod.ReadWrite.All

In delegated scenarios with work or school accounts where the signed-in user is acting on another user, they must be assigned a supported Microsoft Entra role or a custom role with a supported role permission. The following least privileged roles are supported for this operation.

• Global Reader
• Authentication Administrator
• Privileged Authentication Administrator

HTTP request

The ID of the email authentication method, referenced by {emailMethods-id}, is always 3ddfcfc8-9383-446f-83cc-3ab9be4be18f.

Get details of your own email authentication method.

GET /me/authentication/emailMethods/{emailMethods-id}

Get details of your own or another user's email authentication method.

GET /users/{id | userPrincipalName}/authentication/emailMethods/{emailMethods-id}

Don't supply a request body for this method.

Response

If successful, this method returns a 200 OK response code and the requested emailAuthenticationMethod object in the response body.
