Use cases whitepaper

Intended use cases

Dragon Copilot is only intended to be used by a qualified member of an individual's care team working on the customer's behalf as an employee, independent contractor, or medical staff member. All users must be qualified in the clinical practice of health care, with the ability to take into account the individual circumstances of each patient's case and trained on the use of Dragon Copilot.

Dragon Copilot is purpose‑built for single-medical staff member - single‑patient medical encounters. Illustrative intended uses include:

  • Real‑time dictation of medical notes, memos, or template content using STT.
  • Ambient capture of a clinician–patient conversation to generate a draft medical note.
  • LLM‑assisted summarization of a lengthy note into a concise after‑visit summary suitable for patients.
  • Drafting of referral letters that pull diagnosis and plan details from the encounter transcript and medical note.
  • On‑demand transformations, such as changing pronouns or applying user‑specific style rules to an existing note.

Intended uses span multiple domains (primary care, specialty care, tele‑health) and stakes (low‑risk style edits vs. high‑risk medical information capture). In all cases, a licensed medical staff member reviews and signs the output.

Considerations when choosing other use cases

We encourage customers to innovate with Dragon Copilot, but please consider:

  • Single‑patient focus. The system was not designed for multi‑patient group visits or multi-disciplinary team documentation in one session.
  • Language support. Only languages explicitly listed in product documentation are supported for STT and ambient summarization in the current locale.
  • Collaboration model. Real‑time collaborative editing by multiple clinicians in the same note is not supported today.

Unsupported use cases

  • Use as an autonomous clinical decision‑making tool or a substitute for professional judgment.

  • Recording or generating notes for multiple patients simultaneously.

  • Deployment in scenarios that violate applicable laws, including, but not limited to, regional privacy regulations.

  • Deployment in scenarios that violate organizational policies on audio capture.
