Configure Field Service settings
Dynamics 365 Field Service is designed to adapt to different service models and organizational requirements. Before your organization begins using the application, configure the core settings that control how scheduling, resources, and AI-enabled experiences behave.
Enable Bing Maps for resource scheduling
To take full advantage of Field Service's scheduling and mapping capabilities, verify that a mapping provider is configured. Bing Maps is the default provider, but additional providers can be enabled.
- In the Resources area, use the area switcher in the lower-left corner.
- Under Administration, select Scheduling Parameters.
- Open the Resource Scheduling row.
- Set the Connect to Maps field to Yes.
- Save and close the settings.
Configure Field Service settings
Several Field Service settings control how the application behaves across scheduling, resources, assets, and AI features.
Create a bookable resource
- In the Resources area, under Scheduling, select Resources.
- Select New to create a bookable resource.
- Enter a Resource Type, User, and Time Zone.
Additional tabs let you define skills, territories, work hours, and other resource details. For more information, see Set up bookable resources and Specify characteristics for resources.
Review Copilot settings
Field Service includes Copilot experiences that help dispatchers, service managers, and technicians work with records more efficiently. As you plan your implementation, decide which AI-enabled experiences your organization wants to enable and who should have access to them.
Examples include:
- Work order summaries that surface status, priority, recent activity, and next steps.
- Natural language questions in the Copilot side pane to find and summarize Field Service data.
- Form-fill assistance and other in-app AI features that help users complete records faster.
Review the available Copilot options as part of your Field Service setup and governance planning. For more information, see Copilot features in Dynamics 365 Field Service.
Add properties
Properties record important details about customer assets. After you define properties, you can create property templates to apply a set of properties quickly to an asset or a category of assets.
