The Microsoft 365 and Office 365 suites, along with Microsoft 365 Apps, is governed by the Modern Lifecycle Policy, which covers products and services that are supported continuously given that customers maintain an up-to-date configuration.
Other Office on-premises products are governed by the Fixed Lifecycle Policy. Search for a specific Office product to see its corresponding Lifecycle Policy and end-of-support dates.
For Office 2019, Microsoft will provide 5 years of mainstream support with 2 years of extended support as an exception to the 10-year Fixed-Lifecycle Policy term. This 7-year term will align with the support period for Office 2016.
On-premises versions of Office in mainstream support are supported for connecting to Microsoft 365 services (for example: Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, or OneDrive for Business).
Please note that older Office versions might still be able to connect to Microsoft 365 services, however, that connectivity isn't supported. In addition, over time, these older versions might encounter other unexpected performance or reliability issues while using Microsoft 365 services.
See Office versions and connectivity to Microsoft 365 services for more information.
