The Microsoft 365 Copilot extension for Copilot connectors

Important

  • This documentation is for preview customers only and is subject to change. Features described here may not be available in all regions and are not intended for production use.
  • The extension exclusively operates with Microsoft 365 Copilot connectors that your organization’s administrator has approved and enabled, and it only recognizes and uses data from apps once those connections are in place.

The Microsoft 365 Copilot extension is a browser add-on designed to enhance your Microsoft 365 Copilot search experience. It works by delivering personalized, highly relevant Copilot results from your work-related applications, directly within Microsoft 365 Copilot.

This extension enables Copilot Search to enhance the relevance of third-party content, applications, and connectors, bridging the gap between Microsoft 365 and the non-Microsoft applications you use at work.

Smart results from across your work tools

The Microsoft 365 Copilot extension brings together tickets, files, documents, and tasks from multiple applications, empowering you to resolve issues, collaborate with teammates, and move projects forward, from Microsoft 365 Copilot. With every search, you’re equipped to make faster decisions, complete tasks efficiently, and drive productivity throughout your day.

The Microsoft 365 Copilot extension makes your Copilot search results more personal. It ensures that the things you have spent time on are prioritized for you. To illustrate this, imagine two employees searching for the same thing, "Q3 plan". Without the extension, they both get a list of relevant documents matching "Q3 plan," primarily from Microsoft 365 applications.

With the extension, one employee might see the Confluence page they just read about Q3 marketing plans at the top. In contrast, another employee might see a different result, perhaps a Google Drive doc they opened recently, at the top. Each user receives a result tailored to their specific task, bridging the gap between Microsoft 365 and third-party apps used at work.

  2. Your tenant admins can install and manage the extension for your organization from the Microsoft Edge add-ons website. For more information, see Microsoft Edge extensions.

  3. Click the puzzle piece icon. It opens a drop-down menu with a list of all installed extensions. The Microsoft 365 extension appears on this list, and it redirects you to Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Note

The extension only collects activity signals from specific applications that have been approved by your organization’s administrator. It doesn't monitor or track your general web browsing.

What data is collected?

  • Intentional user behavior: For example, when you view a page for the specific apps your organization has approved.
  • Contextual metadata related to the user behavior: Including the source application, for example, ServiceNow, Azure DevOps, item ID, item type, and related details.

The extension prioritizes data protection as a fundamental part of its compliance approach, using strong encryption and strict access controls to safeguard your information.

Supported connectors

The Microsoft 365 Copilot extension works together with Microsoft Copilot connectors. It can handle content from popular workplace tools, including Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow (covering tickets, catalog, and knowledge base articles), Google Drive, GitHub, and Salesforce, all depending on which connections your organization has enabled. The list continues to expand and will include all connectors.
