These release notes provide information about new features and nonsecurity updates that are included in Current Channel updates to Microsoft 365 Apps.

  • Copy data from the status bar: Quickly copy information from aggregations like "Sum," "Average," and "Count" from the status bar.

  • Find your data faster: The Auto-Filter function is now noticeably faster! These improvements were achieved by reducing memory usage and optimizing the calls made by the filter’s comparison algorithm. The optimizations are especially noticeable on low-end devices that have less memory or slower CPU-memory throughput. Learn more

  • Speeding up Formula Entry: Excel has sped up entering a formula in a cell noticeably by reducing memory usage, making more efficient use of allocated memory, and optimizing redrawing. These optimizations are more noticeable on devices with slower Memory or slower CPU-Memory throughout for larger cell ranges.

PowerPoint

  • Text Anchored Comments: As part of PowerPoint's modern comments, customers 5 the ability to anchor comments to specific ranges of text.

Teams

  • Parent Connection with chat, email or phone call: Educators are able to connect with the guardians of their students by chat, email or phone call with a single click.

  • Dynamic caller ID for call queue agents: Call queue agents can now place calls from the Calls app using a call queue phone number as their caller ID. This ensures the call is properly identified by the recipient and that the callback number is the call queue number rather than the agent's personal line.

  • Moodle LMS integration with Microsoft Teams: In addition to integration with Canvas and Blackboard, Microsoft has now partnered with Moodle LMS to deliver seamless integrated learning experiences. Microsoft Teams Meeting LTI and Teams Classes LTI apps are now available within Moodle.

  • Give or take control for Azure Window Desktop on Virtual Desktop Infrastructure: Users on Azure Window Desktop are able to give and take control during calls and meetings. If you want another meeting participant to change a file, help you present, or demonstrate something, you can give control to that person. You'll both be in control of the sharing, and you can take back control anytime. To take control while another person is sharing, select Request control. The person sharing can then approve or deny your request. While you have control, you can make selections, edits, and other modifications to the shared screen. When you’re done, select Release control to stop sharing control.

  • Chat with self: Users can send themselves notes, messages, files and images/videos; helping them stay organized.

  • We fixed an issue where shared workbooks in .xls format might improperly merge changes.

  • We fixed an issue where an AMSI scan would cause the app to close unexpectedly.

  • We fixed an issue that caused Excel to close unexpectedly when showing live preview of a chart.

Outlook

  • We fixed an issue that prevented the Room Finder from loading in the GCC-High environment.

  • We fixed an issue where users weren't able to add room mailboxes to the calendar.

PowerPoint

  • We fixed an issue where changing the sensitivity label on a document while coauthoring with others might lose the picked sensitivity label.

  • Read Aloud just got better: The new Read Aloud Toolbar features new, natural sounding voice options.

Teams

  • Give or take control for Citrix on Virtual Desktop Infrastructure: User on Citrix is able to give and take control during calls and meetings. If you want another meeting participant to change a file, help you present, or demonstrate something, you can give control to that person. You'll both be in control of the sharing, and you can take back control anytime. To take control while another person is sharing, select Request control. The person sharing can then approve or deny your request. While you have control, you can make selections, edits, and other modifications to the shared screen. When you’re done, select Release control to stop sharing control.

  • Automatic Groupings in Teams for Channel Posts: New automatic groupings are available in Teams as suggestions to use in channel posts. For example, you can @TeamOwners in a channel posting and all Team Owners are notified.

  • Microsoft Teams App in Microsoft Store: Microsoft Teams App for Work, school and life will soon be available to download from our very own Microsoft Store. This App supports work, school and consumer accounts on Windows 10 and Work or school accounts on Windows 11.

  • Connector for Dataverse and Power Platform: While Access has been integrated with the cloud through Sharepoint and SQL, the new connector to Dataverse and the Power Platform enables new scenarios that unlock benefits for developers who can now create custom apps for Mobile and MS Teams, plus automations, and chatbots built with Power Platform and Dataverse for Teams that work directly with their Access data and Dataverse.   • Reducing unwanted fragmenting of conditional formatting rules: We're reducing fragmenting of conditional formatting rules across a contiguous cell range when pasting copied cells into that cell range.

  • Power BI Dataset Request Access Improvements: This update presents users with a way to request access to Power BI datasets when attempting to refresh PivotTables in Excel that are connected to a dataset they don't currently have access to.

Office Suite

  • Added support for third-party storage hosts in Office: Users can now coauthor in real-time on files stored in a select set of third-party cloud storage providers using the Office desktop, web, and mobile apps. On Windows and macOS, users can provision a supported cloud storage provider using the “Add a Place” feature under File / Open. Provisioning tools for Windows and macOS are also available for IT Administrators.

  • Roaming bandwidth control: A new roaming policy to provide specific settings from other policies which need to be rendered dynamically based upon the location of the Teams client. Initially two settings from the TeamsMeetingPolicy are included: AllowIPVideo and MediaBitRateKb.

  • Workflow templates in Teams Store: Workflows enable Teams users to automate repetitive tasks in order to collaborate more effectively and get more done. Users are able to view all workflow templates by category, create a workflow from scratch, and learn more about the feature right from within the Teams store. Clicking on any template guides the user through the configuration experience in-context.

  • Forms Integration with Bookings: Associate Forms templates to Booking services to send forms for data intake from attendees prior to joining a Booking appointment.

  • Teams device store in Teams admin center: Teams device store provides direct procurement through Teams admin center, where admins can discover, purchase and provision Teams certified devices. The functionality is available to small and medium sized organizations in US and Canada. This is extended to more customers in the future.

  • Microsoft Teams: Casting from Teams desktop client to Microsoft Teams Rooms: For quick ad-hoc sessions that don’t require setting up a formal meeting, people can use Teams casting to wirelessly connect to a Teams Room and display content from the Teams desktop client (Windows and Mac). Users can broadcast their screen and cast content stored locally on their computer or accessible via Office 365.

  • Message action entry point for Workflows in Teams: Message based workflows are powerful for collaboration and efficiency. With message action based entry point, users can view/search for applicable workflows as well as trigger pre-configured workflows from the message action overflow menu.

Outlook

  • Show multiple mini-months in Calendar To-Do Bar: This feature allows you to show multiple mini-months both horizontally and vertically in the Calendar To-Do bar.

Office Suite

  • Internet macros blocked by default: To help improve security in Office, we’re changing the default behavior of Office applications to block macros in files from the internet. The following Office applications running on Windows are affected: Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Word. Learn more

  • This updated fixed an issue that caused a custom application that uses OLEDB interfaces to open an Access database that contained links to SharePoint lists to close unexpectedly.

  • We fixed an issue that could have caused memory usage of an application that uses DAO or OLEDB interfaces to read Access databases to grow rapidly. In some cases, this could cause abnormal program termination.

  • We fixed an issue where the application opened onto a screen that is no longer available making the project hide.

  • We fixed an issue where the user would see a security dialog stating that the project had links to one or more data sources, even though the project had no active links. Now, the dialog appears only when there are active links.

  • Support of Live Caption for VDI-AVD: Users on Virtual machine are able to use live captions. Live Captions display the text version of the audio in the call.

  • Hide your own video in Teams meeting: Currently, the user's video is displayed at the bottom right corner of the meeting screen. This feature allows users to hide their own video during a meeting. This will help reduce distractions during the call while still having your video available for other participants.

  • Enable Teams app developers to test their monetized apps within Teams client: Teams app developers now have ability to test the purchase of their Teams app directly from within the Teams client before making either app or offer public.

  • Compact View in Chat: Allow users to see more chats within a given space. Generally better use of space in chat.

  • New guest user usability improvements enabling pending invitation decline and show/hide guest tenant list from Teams app account settings: A guest user can now decline a pending guest invitation from Teams app. A guest user can now leave an org from Teams app account settings. A guest user can also choose to hide/show guest tenants from the Teams account settings.

  • Queue view for Virtual visits scheduled in Bookings app: Real time updates to meeting state in a Queue view for Virtual visits scheduled in Bookings app.

  • Pin your own video in Teams meetings: Currently, users can pin video feeds to increase the size of the desired video on their own screen. Now, we expanded the ability for users to pin their own video on the stage as well. This way, users can also see their own video in the increased size on their screen.

  • Local time available added to people profile: You can now know the local time of the people you collaborate with.

  • Microsoft Teams: Career Coach - Job market trends: Faculty and staff license holders will now be able to view location-based job market trends within Career Coach. This experience is powered by LinkedIn workforce hiring data.

  • New Fluent Emoji style coming to Teams emojis and reactions: Teams is joining Microsoft 365 and Windows in updating all emojis and reactions to the new Microsoft Fluent emoji style, bringing users a more vibrant and expressive emoji experience.

  • Support application Screen sharing for Citrix: Now users on Citrix VDI can share application in Teams meeting.

  • Dynamic Emergency Calling for Work From Home for VDI on Azure Virtual Desktop: This feature enables users on Azure Virtual Desktop on VDI to make an emergency call while working from home. It allows users to validate (and if necessary, edit) the address that is communicated to emergency responders.

  • Turn Off Reactions and App notifications from Activity: The feature allows users to turn off reactions and app notifications from surfacing in the activity feed by directly right clicking on the feed item and exercising "Turn off all reactions" or "Turn off app notification" from the ellipsis.

  • Mirror my video: Mirror my video feature provides the user the option to un-mirror their video and thereby have the same view as the other users(s) in the meeting. By un-mirroring their video, the user sees the text correctly. No more flipped text in backgrounds or while holding a small whiteboard while teaching primary school kids. This feature is helpful in gallery, large gallery, ppt-content only sharing, and ppt-live scenarios.

  • Dynamic Emergency Calling for Work From Home for VDI - VMware: This feature enables users on Virtual Machine to validate the address that is communicated to emergency responders if an emergency call is placed by an individual working from home.

  • Export Teams list from the Teams admin center: Administrators can export Teams list as a CSV file from the Teams admin center

  • Microsoft Teams for Education: Career Coach - Admin feature enabling: IT admin has controls in Teams Admin Center for enabling new Career Coach features for their school.

  • Microsoft Teams for Education: Career Coach - Connection messages: Students can now select a message to include with their LinkedIn connection invitation to school alumni.

  • Raise your hand in a Teams meeting: During a meeting, you can raise your hand virtually to let people know you want to contribute without interrupting the conversation.

  • Channel entry point for Workflows in Teams: There can be multiple workflows fueling collaboration within or across channels. With channel based entry point, users can view/search for applicable workflows as well as trigger pre-configured workflows from the manage channel menu alongside apps. This enables easy discovery and running of workflows at the channel level.

When you enable streaming, organizers can stream meetings and webinars to external endpoints by providing a Real-Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP) URL and key to the built-in Custom Streaming app in Teams.

  • Meeting Reactions: Meeting reactions are a new way to interact in meetings. Participants can send reactions and they'll be shown as a stream on content that is shared, and on the individual who sent the reaction if they're displayed on the meeting stage.

  • Improvement for managing attendee audio permissions in a Teams Meeting: Meeting presenters and organizers can now allow attendees to unmute even if their hand isn't raised. Previously, meeting attendees that were prevented from unmuting (mic disabled) had to raise their hand to be allowed to unmute.

  • Improvement for managing attendee audio permissions in a Teams Meeting: Previously, meeting presenters or organizers couldn't disable the mic of a single attendee in a meeting. The organizer or presenter could only set "Allow attendees to unmute" to off, thereby disabling the mics of every attendee. With this change, meeting presenters and organizers can prevent individual attendees from unmuting in an ad-hoc manner during a Teams Meeting.

  • Improved Experience in the Meeting Participant Roster: We are now changing how the participant list is displayed in a Teams meeting for the Lobby, In meeting, Presenters, and Attendees participant sections. A maximum of 20 participants for each of the sections are displayed in the initial view, with an option to drill in and view more participants within that section. For the lobby, you can review the full list before you admit all into the meeting. The roster will display details of most active participants in the meeting arranged in alphabetical order. There are no changes to the participants action menu.

  • Search meeting participants from the roster: From the search box in the roster, users can now search currently in the meeting participants, to know whether a particular individual has joined the meeting. They can continue to search for participants outside the meeting and request them to join the meeting.

  • Share to Teams from Outlook: Share to Teams from Outlook allows you to send a copy of email messages or conversations, including attachments, into Teams chats and channels. Find the Share to Teams option in the Outlook ribbon or the action menu for an email. Share to Teams supports Outlook on the web, Outlook for Windows, and the new Outlook for Mac Preview.

  • Breakout Room Timer and Room assignment retention: Organizers can now set a timer for Breakout rooms from the Breakout Room settings. After timer has expired, rooms will automatically close and participants will come back to the main meeting. Room assignment retention provides the ability to persist room configuration and assignment over multiple sessions.With participant reassignment capability, organizer will now be able to move joined participants across rooms and main meeting also when rooms are opened.

  • Offline access for files: Users can now access previously opened files even when there is no internet connectivity.

  • Grid View when sharing a PowerPoint File: When sharing a PowerPoint file in a meeting, users can now use grid view to see all the slides in the deck for easy ad-hoc slide navigation.

With Polls, which is powered by Microsoft Forms, meeting presenters can prepare, launch, and evaluate polls before, during, and after meetings, respectively, all from one place under a tab in the Teams meeting. As a meeting presenter, you can add the Forms app as a tab in the Teams meeting, then create, launch, and evaluate your polls from one place. Create polls to be launched during the meeting even before the meeting begins. Then, after the meeting, you can choose to evaluate responses in the tab, an exported Excel workbook, or on the web in the Forms app. Presenters have a variety of controls, like enabling anonymous responses, closing polls, and exporting results to Excel. Attendees from any endpoint (mobile, web, desktop) can view and answer polls as they appear on the meeting screen or in the meeting chat, as well as see non-anonymous poll results in real time.

  • Masking phone numbers: We released a new admin setting for masking phone numbers for dial-in participants when they join a meeting. Admins can choose to mask phone numbers from everyone in the meeting (except the organizer), from external people only or have masking disabled. If the admins choose to have this setting disabled, the phone numbers are displayed in the meeting. (private release until the end of October)

  • Calendar sharing: We added the ability to add a channel to a calendar tab.

  • Bringing more scenes to Together Mode: Teams has now introduced the ability for meeting organizers or presenters to change the Together Mode scene allowing attendees to appear in different experiences together.

  • Templates in Microsoft Teams: With Templates in Teams, users can choose from various customizable templates when creating a new team, helping them get started quickly. IT professionals can also create new custom templates for their organization, allowing them to standardize team structures, surface relevant apps, and scale best practices.

  • Pinned Posts: This feature allows users to "pin" any message in a channel to the channel info pane for all members of the channel to see. Any members who have access to the channel are able to see pinned messages. Any member of a channel is able to pin any message (unless turned off via channel moderation settings).

  • Submit to app catalog: You’ll see a Submit to app catalog link on the lower left of this screen. In addition to App Studio and Visual Studio, it’s another place where you can submit apps for approval.

  • Use Freehand by Invision to whiteboard in the popped out meeting experience: You can now use the Freehand by Invision app to whiteboard in any meeting you take in the popped out meeting experience.
