Release notes for Outlook for Windows (new) Targeted Release

Outlook for Windows (new) is updated regularly to provide new features, performance improvements, bug fixes, and security updates. These release notes provide more information about those changes.

These release notes are for audiences in the Targeted Release ring.

April 24, 2026

  • Various fixes to functionality and performance.

April 17, 2026

  • You can now arrange calendars alphabetically by name from the context menu in the calendar picker.
  • Conditional formatting now includes additional conditions and formatting options in Settings.

April 10, 2026

  • Copilot: Get help writing and revising emails with Copilot in chat. Click Help me write or Help me reply in an email draft to get started.
  • Outlook now syncs your email in the background even when the app is closed. To change this, go to Settings > General > Offline and disable the option.
  • You can now undo pin and unpin actions on emails.

  • When editing a table in compose, you can now select an entire row or column using controls at the top and side of the table.

March 27, 2026

  • Inbox rules now support additional actions including permanent delete, clear categories, and flag management.
  • Outlook now requires additional verification when creating email forwarding rules for personal accounts.
  • You can now use categories as conditions when creating inbox rules.

March 20, 2026

  • Meeting templates: You can now create personal meeting templates and access templates set by your IT admin from the New Event dropdown in Calendar.
  • You can now import email from PST files in Settings > Files > Import.
  • Newsletters: Outlook now displays a warning when you add external email recipients to a newsletter.

  • You can now copy a shortened Teams meeting URL from the Copy Link context menu.

  • DLP Warn dialog: The Data Loss Prevention (DLP) warn dialog now includes justification, false positive reporting, and acknowledgment fields, aligning with the Outlook for Windows (classic) experience.
  • Time zone display names are now daylight saving time (DST)-aware and show the appropriate standard or daylight time name based on the time of year.
  • You can now assign multiple categories to calendar events and email messages simultaneously using the context menu or ribbon.
  • Administrators can now configure customized dialog notifications for users in New Outlook.

Starting this week, release notes for features and fixes that simultaneously ship to Targeted Release and Standard Release will appear in this list. (Previously, the Targeted Release release notes included only unique items that did not reach Standard Release.)

  • A new content picker pane lets you insert images, stickers, and emojis when composing a message.
  • When you share a folder, Outlook now checks if the recipient needs access to the parent folder and prompts you to share it when necessary.
  • The emoji picker (shown when you type ":") has an updated design.
  • An informational banner now appears when you navigate from an encrypted email to a nonencrypted email.
  • A hover button is now available on group headers in your message list for quick access to group actions.
  • The Share to Teams button is now hidden from the ribbon and menu when your admin disables this feature.

  • Open attachments while offline: We're adding more functionality to offline mode in new Outlook for Windows. You're now able to open and save attachments from your email without an internet connection.
  • Shared mailboxes as accounts: Shared mailboxes can be added as Accounts in the new Outlook for Windows. The Shared Mailbox appears at the Account Level in the Folder list. Access to the Shared Mailbox requires the user's credentials and associated permissions.

  • Find Text when reading email on Outlook on the Web and New Outlook for Windows: The ability to find text when reading email on Outlook is supported. This feature bears resemblance to F4 on Outlook for Windows, or Ctrl+F in other apps.
  • Auto-export mailbox to PST file: With the latest update to the new Outlook for Windows, users can now schedule exports of either their entire mailbox—including emails, calendars, and contacts—or specific folders to a .pst file (also known as an Outlook Data File). Future releases of new Outlook expand the support for .pst file capabilities.
