1. The standard states that cells have names such as A1, A2, B1, B2, and so on, with the letter representing the column and the number representing a row.

In Word, a cell can also be referenced with the R1C1 style as described in R1C1-Style Cell Reference, §18.17.2.3.2(a). Word only recognizes absolute cell references in this format.
