The pubDate element, as specified in [RSS2.0], requires a date that uses the format specified in [RFC822] Section 5. The RSS 2.0 format extensions extend the pubDate element such that it MAY contain a date in an implementation-specific format, such as any of the formats described in [MSFT-SHORTDATE].
