3.2.2.1 Address Rebalancing Timer

The purpose of the Address Rebalancing timer is to trigger periodic address space redistribution between the failover partners. This timer is initialized when a new failover relationship is created by using the R_DhcpV4FailoverCreateRelationship method ([MS-DHCPM] section 3.2.4.90) and reset whenever the failover relationship transitions to the NORMAL state as shown in the Failover state machine figure in section 3.1.1).

This is a periodic timer with a default interval value of 5 minutes<11>; that is, unless the timer is stopped, it will expire periodically as specified by the timer interval. This timer value SHOULD be set appropriately, factoring in the client processing rate of the DHCP server. This timer has to be stopped when the communication between the partners is down.
