The state machine for RTSP servers is specified in [RFC2326] section A.2 and as depicted in the following illustration. RTSP Windows Media Extensions define an additional state transition: A higher-layer event can cause the server to transition from the PLAYING to the READY state. The presence of a caching proxy server introduces an additional state to the RTSP server state machine; this state is specified in section 4.6. Transitions in and out of the RECORD state are not described in this specification.<29>
