Feature details

Power BI Desktop will ship with a modern ribbon that users are familiar with from Office. Users will now be able to:

  • Save canvas space by using a more simplified ribbon.
  • Pin more reports using an updated file menu.
  • See available themes in a theme gallery and preview themes on hover.
  • Format visuals through a universal formatting control.

The modern ribbon will also be accessible through keyboard navigation and screen readers. The updated ribbon experience will be the new default experience in Power BI Desktop starting in March. After the April release of Power BI Desktop, authors will not be able to revert to the legacy ribbon experience. We strongly encourage updating any internal documentation and training materials for Power BI Desktop before the April release.
