Business value

Customers can continue with the rapid digitization of business processes that increase live application usage and data storage, while ensuring regulatory compliance requirements are met for non-active historical data. They will accomplish this through the Microsoft Dataverse long-term storage capability. No IT investment is required, and it comes with enterprise-grade governance features, including GDPR support.

Feature details

Application admins can set up custom data retention policies to retain immutable records in a long-term Dataverse store and manage policies with a dashboard. Simply schedule a one-time or recurring policy with criteria on a root table. All related child tables will be auto-selected by Dataverse and retained in the long-term store. Environment-level settings within the Power Platform admin center will allow admins to enable the feature for specific environments.

Users with admin roles will have access to the data and Dataverse public API. Advanced Find within the application can retrieve the data, and cold data reads will be limited and constricted.

Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations applications will separately support long-term data retention for individual functional scenarios like general ledger transactions, inventory transactions, sales orders, and more in a phased manner.
