Business value

Power BI now allows users to perform modeling operations in the Power BI Service. Some examples of operations that are enabled include the ability to add new measures or columns to an existing dataset, edit the format strings, and edit the RLS of the model. The eventual goal is to get complete desktop parity in the web.

Feature details

Now, Power BI allows users to navigate to a dataset and edit the dataset using the model view interface found inside Power BI Desktop. This will allow users to work and collaborate simultaneously on the same dataset. We'll allow users to take an existing dataset and modify it, including:

  • Measures
  • Role Level Security
  • Format strings
  • Relationships

Power BI will also enable a preview mode to allow users in the dataset hub to easily view the definition of a dataset directly inside the browser. This is the first wave of improvements expected to help multiple authors edit datasets on the web.
