Business value

A drillthrough report is a report that you open by selecting a link in another paginated report. Drillthrough reports commonly contain details about an item that is contained in an original summary report. For many years, SQL Server Reporting Services has given users the ability to take advantage of this detailed report type. Now, we're bringing this capability to Power BI paginated reports.

Feature details

With drill through in Power BI paginated reports, you can create a destination detail report page that focuses on a specific entity, such as a supplier, customer, product, or manufacturer. When your report readers activate a cell data point in a summary page, they drill through to the target page to get details that are filtered to that context.

Feature functionality includes:

  • Report to report (main report to detail).
  • Ability to pass all applied filters to the drillthrough target page.
  • Migrate on-premises drillthrough reports to paginated reports in the service.
  • Author reports in Power BI Report Builder by using the action Go to report feature on a cell property.
