Create a Dashboard View

In System Center 2012 – Operations Manager, you can create dashboard views to provide customized visualization of your monitoring data. Dashboard views display in both the Operations console and the web console. The procedure on this page creates the following dashboard view in the Operations console, however you can use the same steps to create dashboard views in the web console:

To create a dashboard view

  1. Log on to the Operations console with an account that is a member of the Operations Manager Administrators role for the management group.

  2. In the Monitoring workspace, right-click Monitoring, point to New, and click Dashboard View. The New Instance Wizard opens.

  3. On the Template page, click Grid Layout, and then click Next.

  4. On the General Properties page, do the following:

    1. Enter a name for the dashboard view. This name will be visible in the navigation pane of the Monitoring workspace. For this example, enter the name Dashboard View Grid Layout.

    2. Optionally, enter a description. The description is visible in the Properties for the dashboard view.

    3. Click Next.

  5. On the Select Layout page, in the Specify the layout of the Dashboard drop-down menu, select 3 Cells.

  6. On the Select Layout page, in the Select a Layout Template pane, select the template which shows one large cell on the top and two smaller cells beneath it, as shown in the following image.

  7. On the Summary page, click Create.

  8. On the Completion page, click Close. The focus in the navigation pane of the Operations console will be on the dashboard view that you just created.

To add the performance widget

  1. In the top cell of your dashboard view, click Click to add widget. The New Instance Wizard opens.

  2. On the Template page, click Performance Widget, and then click Next.

  3. On the General Properties page, in the Name field, enter Performance Widget, and then click Next.

  4. On the Specify the Scope and Counters page, do the following:

    1. For Select a group or object, click the ellipses button. The Select a group or object dialog box opens. Select Operations Manager Management Servers and click OK.

    2. Click Add.

    3. In the Select performance counters dialog box, in Available Items, select Object=Health Service and Counter=Workflow Count and Available Items=(All), and then click Add. Click OK.

  5. Click Next.

  6. On the Time Range page, the default selection is 24 hours. Leave the setting at the default and click Next.

  7. On the Specify the Chart Preferences page, click Show the legend and the following items, and then click Next:

    • Performance Object

    • Performance Counter

    • Performance Instance

    • Last Value

    • Minimum Value

    • Maximum Value

    • Average Value

  8. On the Summary page, review the settings and click Create.

  9. On the Completion page, click Close.

To add the alert widget

  1. In the bottom left cell of your dashboard view, click Click to add widget. The New Instance Wizard opens.

  2. On the Template page, click Alert Widget, and then click Next.

  3. On the General Properties page, in the Name field, enter Alert Widget, and then click Next.

  4. On the Specify the Scope page, for Select a group or object, click the ellipses button. The Select a group or object dialog box opens. Select Operations Manager Agent Managed Computer Group, click OK, and then click Next.

  5. On the Specify the Criteria page, in the Severity section, select Critical, Warning, and Information. In the Priority section, select High, Medium, and Low. In the Resolution State section, select New. Click Next.

  6. On the Display page, in Columns to display, select Severity, Source, Maintenance Mode, Name, Resolution State, and Priority, and then click Next.

  7. On the Summary page, review the settings and click Create.

  8. On the Completion page, click Close.

To add the state widget

  1. In the bottom right cell of your dashboard view, click Click to add widget. The New Instance Wizard opens.

  2. On the Template page, click State Widget, and then click Next.

  3. On the General Properties page, in the Name field, enter State Widget, and then click Next.

  4. On the Specify the Scope page, click Add. The Add Groups or Objects dialog box opens. In Available Items, select All Management Servers Resource Pool, click Add, and then click OK. Click Next.

  5. On the Specify the Criteria page, select Display objects only in the specified health states, Healthy, Warning, Critical, and Not Monitored. Click Next.

  6. On the Specify the Display Preferences page, in Columns to display, click Display Name, Path, Health, and Maintenance Mode. Click Next.

  7. On the Summary page, review the settings and click Create.

  8. On the Completion page, click Close.
