Activation

Both a computer and a user (or group) need to be activated for an Active Directory Rights Management Services (AD RMS) application to work. Computer activation is the process of acquiring a machine certificate. User activation is the process of obtaining a rights account certificate that ties a specific user to a specific activated computer. Machine activation and user activation must be performed separately.

There are two types of activation.

Section Description
Machine Activation Describes computer activation.
User Activation Describes user activation.

Note  When attempting enterprise activation, you must activate from an AD RMS service in the same Active Directory forest as your Windows user account.
